Nitrogen-fixing Plants

Symbiotic nitrogen(N)-fixing plants ("fixers") are important in ecosystems, by enriching soil with N-rich litter and alleviating N limitation for plant growth.
I am interested in the ecological strategies of fixers and mechanisms selecting for fixation.

Community Assembly
Plant functional traits can influence plant performance, plant-plant interactions, and ultimately community assembly.

Using fixers as a model system,
I investigate how traits govern processes at different scales.

Global Nitrogen Cycle
Human interference of global N cycle has resulted in alarmingly high N deposition in many regions, threatening ecosystem resilience and public health.

I aim to improve the management of global N use, via the lens of
socio-ecological dynamics.
